September 1 - fundraiser/class information
Thanks to all the parents who came out and supported our class at the fun run today! It was hot, but the kids had a blast! Tonight is the last day of pledges, so if your child is working towards that special prize you still have time to get more pledges. Tonight is open house - it starts at 6:00. Hope to see everyone tonight!! Below are some of the things we are working on in class. If you read a story to your child at night you can ask them about the main idea of the story or what nouns are in the books. We learned about how people and animals are nouns and made a chart together in class. Inside the Walls of the Our Classroom: Math: ü Counting Collections (Represent and record numerals for a set of objects up to 120 ) ü Partner Games (Building number sense and classroom community) Literacy ü Identifying main idea and summarizing ü Nouns and Labels Science/Social Studies: ü Measuring weather (charting daily weather) ü Rules and Procedures |

100's Day/banana split party (math drills)
Don't forget to dress up like you are 100 years old - Thursday, Feb 3rd and bring 100 pennies for the "Change Angels"!
We are practicing math fact drills in addition (0-9). I noticed some students are getting stuck on adding 2's. You may want to practice with your child, so they are not adding on their fingers and know the facts automatically. Practice makes perfect, and we are doing the drills everyday for 2 minutes. At the end of the year or whenever everyone has completed their facts we are going to have a banana split party! If your child at least completes their 2's - they will be able to have a banana. So far, the students are doing a great job and hope everyone makes it to the ice cream (4's).
Also, our Valentines Ball is on Feb 10th at 12:30. We are going to have a small party in our room and exchange valentine cards while having snacks and then go in the flex area for a 1st grade dance. Everyone is going to look awesome dressed in your "Sunday Best"!

The first day of school
We are getting to know our new classmates
We are having a math lesson and making a pattern train with attibute blocks. The blocks have to have something in common - color, width, size, and shape.
Well, it is a new year and we have a new blog! This is all "new" for me and I will try and keep it up to date, so you can use it as another way to get information on what is going on in the classroom. Right now I just want to say Happy New Year and Go Hogs!!!
